More Wonder Woman Mythology: New Name Added

For those who thought we wouldn't see much of Paradise Island and Wonder Woman's back story, now it looks like we may. The character, Greek goddess Artemis has been added to the cast.

Thus far though, it looks like only in flashbacks but that doesn't mean she couldn't become a bigger character later. And one would hope that we would also see Diana's mother also somewhere in the flashback (and yes, I hope that role will go to Lynda Carter). Unfortunately, there hasn't been any other news relating to casting WW's relatives.

A fan favorite for Artemis also seems to be actress/model, Daneel Harris.  But since Bridget Regan isn't Wonder Woman (another fan favorite), the role of Artemis could go to a non-fan favorite as well.

New Character Revealed!

There's another name to add to the list of supporting cast for the Wonder Woman reboot.  (To me, he sounds like an interesting character.  Don't know yet if he will be a minor or major character but I'm going to guess right now, probably minor.)

[CHARACTER/PLOT SPOILERS]

Lynda Carter on Casting Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman

The original Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter, has stated in previous interviews that she supports David E. Kelley's Wonder Woman 2.0 reboot.  (She was still mum whether she will have a cameo in the reboot -- but if it happens, that sort of thing would be so tightly under wraps anyway. But fans would love to see Carter as Wonder Woman's mom and I would be totally behind that idea too because it bring the reboot full circle).

But from the recent interview she gave with the Baltimore Sun, she's still talking with Kelley. So anything is possible.   About casting Palicki for the role:
"I think it is an amazing role to play. I know [Adrianne] is going to be really nervous about it, just because you would be. But I have a lot of confidence in David Kelley and what he's going to come up with. David Kelley's so talented, and that's really where it needs to be, is in the writing,"
It will be interesting if Carter ended up being a consultant to Kelley working on Wonder Woman, or even wrote or directed some episodes.  She probably has amazing insight into the role and that would just be fan heaven!

NBC Upfronts 2011

This is still a ways off but NBC's Upfronts (when the networks where the networks announce their fall schedules and pitch to advertising buyers to get as much advertising money “up front” as they can) will be May 16, 2011.

So we should know around May, where Wonder Woman will be on the fall schedule.  We'll also know around that time about cancellations and other show renewals.

Wonder Woman's Supporting Cast?

Adrian Pasdar
Now that we finally have our Wonder Woman, the next casting question is who will be her supporting cast members?  Just to recap, the other main characters will include Myndi Mayer, Etta, Henry Demeter and Ed Indelicato.

TVSquad has some suggestions.

Like Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicle's starlet, Stephanie Jacobsen as Myndi Mayer. Or Felicity's Scott Speedman as Steve Trevor or Kate Mara at Etta Candy. What about WW's possible two other male love interests? Who do you see as Henry or Ed.

Spider-Man? Wonder Woman? Superman? What is YOUR most anticipated superhero reboot?

From Left to Right: Andrew Garfield, Adrianne Palicki, Henry Cavill
It's been an exciting week for comic book fans! Just to recap,  Monday, the full teaser poster for the Spider-Man reboot was released, Adrianne Palicki was cast as Wonder Woman, and the next actor to don Superman's red and blue suit, British actor, Henry Cavill, gave his first interview. Three superheroes. Three new actors. Three high profile reboots. But which one are you most excited to see?

So, Entertainment Weekly has put out there another poll, asking fans which reboot they are most excited about, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman or Superman?

As much as I am excited for Spider-Men (because Andrew looks hot in a suit), I voted for Wonder Woman.

So, go vote if you haven't!

More spoilers

TVSquad writer, Maureen Ryan takes a realistic look at Wonder Woman's reboot.  News broke earlier today that Adrianne Palicki will be the next Wonder Woman, but Ryan questions whether this reboot will actually fly.   There's several minuses against this reboot.

Then, there's the three personas/alias Palicki will have to tackle.

She'll be the crime-fighting Wonder Woman, of course, but she'll also play W.W.'s alter ego, corporate executive Diana Themyscira, and Diana's assistant, Diana Prince.

Yup, Diana Prince is Diana Themyscira's assistant.

How this will be pulled off on-screen is another story. Will we actually see Diana T. and Diana P. in the same scenes together, or will Miss. Themyscira simply refer to assistant Diana Prince? I had to read twice to make sure my eyes weren't fooling me on that one.

Is Adrianne Palicki The Right Choice For Wonder Woman? [MTV POLL]

Because reactions to Palicki's casting as Wonder Woman, is mixed, MTV offered a poll.

The "Friday Night Lights" actress was cast as the lead in NBC's upcoming "Wonder Woman" television series this week, making her one of the very short list of actresses to play DC's famous Amazon on the small screen.
But is she right for the role?

Why Adrianne Palicki Was Cast As Wonder Woman

In my previous post, I said Palicki won the role of Wonder Woman because was the only actress invited to test for it.

Well, MTV's short article sheds some light on why she was the only actress considered for the role, and there's a connection to the pilot's director, Jeffrey Reiner. Palicki was on Friday Night Lights, right? Jeffrey Reiner directed Friday Night Lights.  Even though Reiner is only slated so far to direct the pilot episode for Wonder Woman, Reiner might have had some pull with casting for the title role.

But before fans start ranting and dooming the show, the original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter tweeted her congratulations!

Kelley Finds His Wonder Woman!!

Just one day after the audition video of Tanit Pheonix surfacing auditioning for the lead role in the Wonder Woman reboot, the role is apparently going to actress Adrianne Palicki.

Friday Night Lights star Adrianne Palicki has landed the coveted lead role in the broadcaster’s reboot of the classic 1970s series.

In addition to having won praise for her performance on FNL, Palicki looks, well… spot-on perfect for the part, yes?

First Wonder Woman Audition Video: Tanit Phoenix

The first Wonder Woman audition has popped up, and it features Tanit Pheonix auditioning for Diana Prince. The title card doesn't include Diana's other two identities, Diana Themyscira or Wonder Woman.

The audition tape says its of the first scene from the pilot. Even more interesting is what is being talked about in the scene. She's talking about boobs and their size, I think, of a doll. It's actually kinda funny when you start to really listen to what she's saying.

New Approach to Wonder Woman, Not the Right One?

Of what we know now so far of the character, and depending on who you talk to, fangirls/fanboys will have a mixed reactions to the latest Wonder Woman character/story developments.

Kofi Outlaw at screenrant.com takes a realistic look at the script and its characters. He particularly takes issue with the direction of the character.

The first thing I have to take issue with here, is how they’re approaching Wonder Woman. In my experience, the character is a strong-willed and fiercely passionate woman – she knows who she is, what she stands for, and isn’t afraid to follow the whims of her heart. Like Superman stands for American ideals, Wonder Woman has always stood for feminine ideals – i.e., strength, intelligence and passion balanced by an almost limitless well of bravery and compassion. Maybe that’s what this TV pilot is going for, but to me that casting description reads like a soapy Smallville-type character, and that is not something I can stand behind.
In fact, the thought of long shots of Diana Prince staring off into space and pouting at the camera while some emo-rock tune sounds out her “complicated feelings” makes me shudder. “A real woman who yearns to live a normal life.” Really? Am I wrong in my thinking that Diana is typically depicted as a proud warrior who wants normal women to stand up and be more like Amazons – and not the other way around?

Grant Morrison expresses his desire to write Wonder Woman

Scottish writer Grant Morrison has expressed his desire to write Wonder Woman.

Morrison says that he wanted to write a story for the Amazon princess and the Flash. In addition, he would also like to explore Wonder Woman's untapped sexuality.

"I think one of the things that was lost on the Wonder Woman strip early on was a kind of slightly strange sexuality that the creator, William Marston, brought to the book," said Morrison.

"So, I think over the years a lot of people have had trouble dealing with the character - you know, she's an icon, she's a representation of women, but at the same time there has been a sexuality there that most people don't want to go near, which is quite understandable.

"But because the character was so rooted in it, I think she kind of lost a little bit of her 'sauce'. There have been great versions - I'm not saying there haven't been good Wonder Womans over the years, but I think there's always that little bit of something that Marston took with him.

"So, that's my feeling on Wonder Woman: it'd be nice to restore a little bit of that without being purient or sensationalistic."

Morrison has previously spoken about his interest in exploring Wonder Woman's heritage of bondage. Bondage, was a favorite aspect of Wonder Woman's creator, William Moulton Marston.

Triple Trouble?

This is a very spoilerish article when you consider the time stamp is for Monday, February 14th (Valentine's Day) but it breaks down what we can expect of her character.

First of all, she doesn't have a multiple personality disorder (although from the description of the article, it certainly sounds that way).

According to TV Guide, the series will give Wonder Woman three separate identities. The first will be that of Wonder Woman herself, while the second will be Diana Prince, Wonder Woman's civilian alter ego from the comic books. Meanwhile, the third identity will be that of Diana Themyscira, the CEO of Themyscira Industries.

In addition, Wonder Woman will have a separate love interest for each identity: Henry Demeter, Diana Themyscira's confidante, Ed Indelicato, a man with ties to the police and Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman's boyfriend in the comics.

Casting Sheet For Wonder Woman TV Pilot Released!

The casting sheet for the pilot episode of Wonder Woman has been released, according to ComicBookMovie.com.

In addition to the characters, we also have a show start date. Mark your calendars, Wonder Woman fans:

Television Pilot is currently underway and is set to start on MARCH 15, 2011

Jeffrey Reiner close to replacing McG on up/down David E. Kelley project

Airlockalpha.com says Jeffrey Reiner is "close" in replacing McG as the pilot's director.  But also says the reason why Wonder Woman almost didn't get picked up was because Warner Brother's expensive licensing fee.  Yet the article is quick to point out NBC's horrible track record when it comes to heroic genres.

NBC also has tried its hand in other shows -- mainly remakes -- like "Bionic Woman" (with its own "Battlestar Galactica" connections) and "Knight Rider," both of which lasted just single seasons. Long before a series pick-up actually, I dreaded Wonder Woman possibly going to NBC specifically for this reason.

The article concludes that:

Last week, an NBC source told Airlock Alpha that even if there is no series pickup, the network expects to air the pilot one way or another, possibly as a telemovie, and maybe even a backdoor pilot.

So, we could end up seeing the pilot picked as a telemovie which could lead to an actual series. Either way, NBC looks determined to bring Wonder Woman to the small screen.

On the Creator of Wonder Woman: William Moulton Marston

I think I read a wikipedia article awhile back about the true meaning of Wonder Woman, how she stood for feminism and was truly, the first female superhero -- in a genre, that was at the time, dominated by male superheroes.  Shewired.com takes a look at the creator of Wonder Woman, William Moulton Marston who wrote under the pen name Charles Moulton.

It has some interesting points, the invention of the first lie detector (in the form of Wonder Woman's golden lasso), how if men possessed her bracelets, she would loose her power and was intended as a warning for women to beware the evils of submitting to men, lest they lose their own powers as well.

TV Guide Has More Spoilers

To be on the safe side, I'm simply going to link to the article. Fans can choose to read it or not, but a lot of familiar comic characters are in the description.

TV Guide Takes a Look at Potential Actresses for WW

No new news about Jeffrey Reiner (possibly directing the WW pilot), but TVGuide came out with a list of potential actresses for the starring role. Hint, Bridget Regan is number 9 slide.

Just out curiosity, other than who gets the role of Wonder Woman, do fans have other casting/writers wish list -- people you'd like to see in the reboot? Like, who do you think would make a good Steve Trevor?

Jeffrey Reiner Is "Finalizing A Deal" To Direct The Wonder Woman Pilot

Jeffrey Reiner
Other than details of the first draft, news has been pretty quiet on the show front. Until tonight.

Jeffrey Reiner is finalizing a deal to direct the NBC drama pilot Wonder Woman, David E. Kelley's reimagening of the iconic D.C. comic. Reiner is no stranger to delivering successful tv, having previously worked on Trauma, Caprica and The Event. McG(Terminator Salvation) was in negotiations for the project but apparently had to pass due to scheduling conflicts.

Read comicbookmovie.com for the full article.

If the deal goes through, casting news wouldn't be too far away.  Bridget Regan anyone?

Geekscape.com has a VERY In-Depth review of the WW script

I was only able to skim through parts of the review but it's the most comprehensive review I've seen so far. If you don't have time to read through the whole thing, bookmark it and come back to it later (or not, if you want to stay unspoiled).

Poll close date extended

I have extended the poll closing date until Feb 18. So if you haven't voted, you have this week and the following week until Friday to vote.

some more insight

Out of curiosity, I googled the latest news about Wonder Woman. Shockya.com claims the script that's been circulating around dates back to December 16, 2010.  Way before we knew for sure Wonder Woman was going forward or not. NBC didn't announce it was picking up Wonder Woman until late January, this year.

So between December and January, the script we've seen and read about, has probably changed.  A lot.

some posted comments (regarding the "fake" script)

Most avid fans (male and female) are not happy about the script so in the event, parts of it (especially the parts that make it sound like crap) turn out to be real, it will not be good for Wonder Woman or NBC.  The other parts that don't sound like it's been written by a fanboy or tweenie though, are plausible.

Wonder Woman 2.0 Rumors (& Spumors)

Not everything coming out about Wonder Woman 2.0 is going to be true. There are going to be rumors (and until otherwise verified, I'm treating the script as a rumor) and a fake.
